Tutorial 2! Darla’s Jig (FREE)
A FREE tutorial for ye! This will give you an idea of what I’ve been doing and what’s to come 🙂 I’m a bit biased but I love Darla’s Jig (written by my father, Kevin Chaisson) – a tune that’s been recorded by many over the years!

SO great! I had a bit of a time getting it - couldn't actually get the jig rhythm (123) and so couldn't get the notes...kept hearing a 4/4 time! But once I looked at the dots and remembered it was a jog then it all came together. Even the drones! |

Gotta say I like this tune a lot and it's pretty easy to learn. It's great to have the video so I can go back and see how all the ornaments droning and bowing are happening. When I'm comfortable with it I'll post a video so you can see the results of your efforts Tim. And if you're open to requests for tunes to teach: MJ's Favourite is one of my favourites too - I wrote out the notes for it once but you know - style. Carter MacKenzie's is another Chaisson classic that it would be great to have a lesson on. Just some food for thought. |

Here's my first crack Darla's-96bpm I'll post another when it's all polished and up to speed (like that'll ever happen). I'm really trying to pay attention to the ornaments drones and such - makes it sound so much better when they're in. https://youtu.be/RshM1SvRq_U |

Nice one Dave! Loved it. Are you playing all the backing instruments too? Nice arrangement. Honestly that tempo is really nice - I'd probably play it around that tempo (maybe a teeny tiny bit faster) for a square dance back home. All the embellishments sound great! |

Hi Tim. I'm really enjoying Darla's Jig. Wondering if you can suggest some tunes that would work well with it in a set? |

Nice to hear Ruth! I'd suggest "Mitchell Paul's Jig" (another tune from Dad) or any other classics in G like "Irish Washerwoman"... You could also switch to Emin as well - maybe "Morrison's Jig"? |

Aloha Tim! I am finally learning this one! It's going well but I won't be able to keep up with how fast your spitting them out I'm afraid! But I'm still here! This is wonderful! Can't wait for Monday and glad you guys are home. |

Hi Tim! Have loved learning the first 2 tunes you've posted :) Was wondering if you could play the guitar accompaniment through by itself in its entirety at the end of each video so we can practice the fiddle part with the accompaniment?? No one in my house plays guitar and we'll be in iso for a while longer yet! Thanks Tim :) |

Well ! I have watched this a million times and can now finally play it ... still using the Violin Sheet Music and can't do the embelishments so I sound more like I am playing a march BUT I will march on and keep going until one day ... one day .... one day !!!!!!!!! Thanks Tim ! |

As a new beginner I love your other videos where you use the finger tablature on the scree. (eg. A1,A3,A0). I just thought I’d leave feed back that it is very helpful. You really got me off an running with the fiddle. Keep up everything!
Amazing Alex! So cool to hear!
